I Hate Rock Concerts

Well I don't hate rock concerts as my title suggests, but I hate certain kind of rock music and festivals.. the kind that are literal screams instead of singing , that shriek instead of sounding remotely like anything real music sounds like. In fact if you tape me screaming I reckon you could turn that into a hit.. add some head banging with some very bad background music and you have a heavy metal/rock hit. I do tend to have very high pitched vocal cords so this will mix in well (no skill required there).

So the thing is.. the concert/festival I went to yesterday was a nightmare indeed..but it was entered into voluntarily by myself with good intention. HOWEVER I knew how bad this would be.. imagine your worst kind of music and having to spend five hours in a concert listening to it.. but then imagine you are 32 years old (or 5months till you turn 32) or older ..surrounded by 18 year old teeny boppers all around you, who not only are drunk as skunks but they smell like skunks too. Now add to the mix 30 degree heat with almost 100 percent humidity, filth all around you, queues to wait to get into the toilet that take 30 minutes (when you could wee in your pants) and then finally some nice rain while you wait and ask yourself when is the hell going to end? all this while you are outside listening to some more screaming. So what did I do to ease my pain you ask? I just accepted this was my fate for the day and danced in the rain! What would you do? Lesson Learnt : This is not my bag and it is NEVER TO BE DONE AGAIN unless it is with music that is my taste .. like the artists and bands I have on my blog . So what would you do when faced with such an ordeal?

Meanwhile, while we are on the subject of rock here is a rock band I wouldn't mind seeing live, you see, they are not all that bad and I don't hate all rock.. here is what I consider to be good rock music ..

"Find Yourself"

I know I am rather sporadic with my entries in this blog, but please fear not! I will always continue to write or type whichever you prefer to define it as, so keep on checking in.. who ever is reading my blog out there. So I was making dinner last night and I decided to keep myself entertained by placing the iPad on the kitchen bench top and playing some of my top music choices by pressing shuffle. It shuffled to "Find Yourself" by Brad Paisley. "Find Yourself" was performed by American Country Singer Brad Paisley for the soundtrack to the movie " Cars " in 2006. Now I'm really not a fan of country music but I have to just say that this really is a fantastic tune and the lyrics are even better. Funnily enough , I am also not a fan of animations BUT "Cars" is one of the best I've seen. I absolutely loved it, the animation was great , the story line was clever , the characters were nothing less than pure entertainment. All in all I would highly recommend this movie which is a prerequisite for "Cars 2", which I believe comes out in Australia very soon and may already be released in other countries. I know I will be going to see it.

The lyrics are quite self explanatory however I can't fail to mention how much I relate to these. When you move countries it changes your life , it changes who you are . Making new friends, starting over, nothing seems familiar, it all is very hard. It all takes time but it's all a choice.

It can be so overwhelming you don't know where to start and you lose your way , everything seems mysterious. It can seem like someone purposefully hides all the answers away and you can't even peek. However that's when we have to be at our strongest, pick ourselves up and figure out what we can do to make our lives happier ,more meaningful and regardless of where we are hence "Cause sometimes when you lose your way, its really just as well
Because you find yourself, Yeah thats when you find yourself." So I've been lost for a while now and that's what pushed me to finally make the decision to go back to University to study psychology. Life is too short to do what we don't enjoy and I did that already for far too long. It doesn't hurt either when you are blessed to be with someone who supports your decisions and goals and backs you 100% . I am very blessed to have that person in my life. And so the following line makes sense : "you finally start to live for someone else, And then you find yourself, yeah that's when you find yourself"

Find Yourself

When you find yourself in some far off place
and it causes you to rethink some things
You start to sense that slowly you're becoming someone else
And then you find yourself...

When you make new friends in a brand new town
and you start to think about settling down
The things that would have been lost on you
are now clear as a bell
And you find yourself,
yeah that's when you find yourself

Well you go through life
so sure of where you're heading
And you wind up lost
and its the best thing that could have happened
Cause sometimes when you lose your way, its really just as well
because you find yourself,
yeah that's when you find yourself.

When you meet the one, that you've been waiting for
and she's everything, that you want and more
You look at her and you finally start to live for someone else
And then you find yourself,
yeah that's when you find yourself

We you go through life
so sure of where we're headed
And we wind up lost
and its the best thing that could have happened
Cause sometimes when you lose your way, its really just as well
Because you find yourself,
Yeah thats when you find yourself.

"High"

"High" was written and performed by the British duo Lighthouse Family and released in 1998. When I hear this song I still tend to think of Seal, if you listen close enough don't you think they sound quite similar?

Anyway I reckon this is a damn good song and I absolutely think Lighthouse family are fabulous and so is their album "Postcards from Heaven". The first time I heard this was back in 98 in South Africa. I was on a sort of youth camp with all of my friends. A very good friend of mine had arrived in Johannesburg from Los Angeles and came along for that weekend away. I was so excited to see her as it had been around 6years we hadn't seen eachother ..as she had immigrated. When I saw her it was like no time had passed at all and nothing had changed except that she had turned into a real life Barbie Doll and I had shed maybe 2 kgs after 6 years. Well when ever I hear this song I can't help but think of her and "the good ol days" at what she calls "camp". Fastforward 5 years down the line and we are reunited and living in the same country again? Yes, she moved to Australia and I moved here 5 years later. Never mind that we are in different countries again, it still goes to show that life is unpredictable and we never know what's around the corner for us. I look back in hindsight at "the good ol days" and have fond memories of them, but I wish I could have spent more time really appreciating what I had back then instead of worrying about everything ( cause everything turned out okay in the end ).I spent most of my days worrying about what was, what is and what would be and I wasted precious moments. I now have complete gratitude for all that I was blessed with in the past because I was one lucky girl( okay I still am ).

Life goes by in the blink of an eye and it's true that we only realise what we have when it's gone, everything is always prettier in retrospect. I want to start enjoying my life as it is now. Don't you? Who really appreciates what they have? You know what they say , a wise man once said " Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift , that's why the call it the present" applause now? No don't be silly I can't take credit for that one..

"High" is very special to me as it really delivers a great message of having enough faith to know that even though life can get tough at times and we may feel like we have mountains to climb, we know " someday it'll all be over". We're even more blessed when we have people around who love and support us through the good and bad. By the way this song does not talk about Drugs hehe

So here is this glorious song and please watch the video .. the lyrics are provided in there already :)

"Your Song"

"Your Song" was composed and performed by Elton John in 1970, which is quite surprising to me as I really thought this song came out a lot later. Probably because this song has been sung by so many singers and used in so many flicks. As there are so many versions I will reveal to you the one's I enjoyed the most.

Well the reason I remembered how beautiful this song is, is because I saw "Gnomeo and Juliet" a couple of weeks ago and I said to myself.. I have to include this song in my favourites as it's just beautiful. The movie was a very sweet animation and the music they included in the soundtrack is just great. Sneak peek of the clip from the movie with a short version of "Gnomeo and Juliet" version and Elton John's version is mixed in the one I included.

I remember distinctly hearing this song in "Moulin Rouge"(featuring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor) performed by Ewan McGregor in the movie in 2001. A very talented man being able to act and sing so well. He does a great version of this song in a great musical. I can't help but associate this with "Come What May" , this was another Unbelievable song with a great melody and beautiful lyrics. It also featured in "Moulin Rouge" and was performed by both McGregor and Kidman. So for your pleasure I have included this song too..What do you think of it?

I can't not mention the great lyrics and meaning of the lyrics of "Your Song" , It's just like someone special speaking to you from the heart , you can really hear the words. Who wouldn't want a song dedicated to them as "Your song".I'm still waiting for "My song" hint hint nudge nudge wink wink. Another grand song is the lyrics of "Come what may" , well need I say more? Enjoy all the versions and all the lyrics. Don't be shy to give your feedback.. Today is mushy day for all.

Your Song Lyrics

It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

Come What May
Lyrics

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
I want to vanish inside your kiss
Every day I'm loving you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change, winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

Chorus:
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you
And there's no mountain too high
No river too wide
Sing out this song I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather
And stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Chorus:
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Oh, come what may, come what may
I will love you, I will love you
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place

Chorus:
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

"Who wants to live forever"

"Who wants to live forever" was performed by English Rock Band "Queen" released in June 1986. Lead vocals were performed by Freddy Mercury. This song was written for the soundtrack of the movie "Highlander". The song was used in the scenes when Connor Macleod must watch his wife growing old and dying while he remains young forever, as he is an immortal.

Freddy Mercury was a phenomenan ,in my opinion easily one of the best singers of all time. Pure, raw talent. It is so sad that he died from bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDs on 24 November 1991.

It was through my brother that I learned about Queen, he was the one who had all of their albums and was amazed by their talent and their music. I think this is a very special song that also makes me laugh at the same time. Why laugh you ask? My boyfriend and his best friend (our friend) are very creative and talented in making movies of their Ski trips, of our roadtrips, Birthdays, Suprises etc. They created a clip with this song as their theme. The clip was of them KiteSurfing into the sunset.. very suitable and very romantic I must say :)

The lyrics speak of eternal life which was specifically written for the movie "Highlander". However it can also be interpreted as one who loves another so dearly and has to watch that person grow old and die while they are still alive and well. Clearly it's an extremely painful situation but one which most humans have to endure. To love someone so deeply and have to let them go, as they pass away, is heart wrenching. However he also speaks of the moments spent together before death and how precious those moments are. Nobody wants to watch the people they love, die. However death is a part of life and we need to accept that. We should make the most of the time we have with the people we love in this life because we never know how much time we have. Who really knows what will happen when we die ? We only know what appears to be, don't we? No one really likes to think about dying and letting go of those we love, but as hard as it is , it's a part of life.

I dedicate this song to my special granny who passed away in December 2010, she was extremely frail and her body eventually failed her. I am so glad I got to see her last year in September before she went. Somehow I think she knew when she was going to die and she was ready for it. She is in a better place now and is not suffering anymore. I know her soul lives on forever.
M darling pet Cat "Clio" and dog "Charlie" were also taken suddenly. It's still hard for me to think about the day that I heard the news and so sad for me to think about all of our times together. With so many memories attached to them ,it was hard to let go. Having lived the biggest part of my life in South Africa and hearing the news in Australia was me having to re-live all the memories of my life with them, in South Africa. To say the least it was extremely difficult. I was unconsolable. I try now, not to dwell too much on these things and each day things get better for me. It only teaches me how precious our time on this earth is and how we need to make the most of every moment we have , with those we love. We never know when any moment will be taken from us !

Lyrics :

There's no time for us
There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams, yet slips away
from us
Who wants to live forever? (twice)

There's no chance for us
It's all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

Who wants to live forever? (twice)
Who dares to love forever
When love must die?

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is ours today
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever
Forever is ours today
Who waits forever anyway?

"Shape of my Heart"

"Shape of my heart" performed by Sting was released in 1993. Sting stated that this song was written about a card player, a gambler who plays not to win but to figure out some mystical logic in luck, or chance, or some type of scientific , almost religious law. He stated that it's about a poker player who finds it difficult to express his emotions ,so he wears a mask that never changes.

I believe this song also relates to Tarot and playing cards. Many people seek out the Tarot and even playing cards to give them the answers. It is therefore an attempt to find the answers underneath it all. So the song speaks not just about winning, it's not just about the card game. It's about looking deeper ,looking for the meaning in life , finding the answers even if it means not winning, it's about how the game is played, it's about the journey and expressing one's self without concealing emotions.

The following represents the symbols in Tarot and playing cards which relate to this song :
Spades are Swords which may represent death, misfortune, thinking (usually destructive)
Hearts are Cups representing love, emotions, happiness
Diamonds are Coins/Pentacles represent money, fortune, business, work
Clubs are Wands which represent news and information

This makes sense when you relate it to the lyrics below :
"I know that the spades are swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art"

Now for the full lyrics to the song :

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He doesn't play for respect
He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance

I know that the spades are swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades

I know that the spades are swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

And if I told you that I loved you
You'd maybe think there's something wrong
I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one
Those who speak know nothing
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost

I know that the spades are swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

As an avid Tarot card reader I too look for the answers underneath it all, I use tarot for guidance and when I feel I have reached a crossroads and have some important decisions to make. To be honest at times I just want to know what's going to happen and so I pull out my tarot deck hoping for an answer. Usually when that happens the tarot just reflects what I already knew ..

The Sugababes and Craig David covered their version of this song in 2003. I think that Craig David is one incredibly talented singer performing "Rise and Fall" ..listen for yourself. The Sugababes performed "Shape", they do a great version too. All 3 including the original are really good tracks.

The original "Shape of my Heart" by Sting was played at the end credits for the movie "Leon" featuring Natalie Portman in 1994. A excellent movie I might add.

Below are all three in no specific order :

"Unpretty" and "The Sun Screen song"

Today I've picked two songs which both send out a critical message about self esteem, self love, self image and life in general .. The first one is "Unpretty" which was recorded by TLC in 1999. Unpretty originated from a poem dealing with a woman's struggle with her self image. The poem also addressed the comparisons females make between themselves and the unrealistic images often portrayed by the media. Apparently this was the most expensive video ever made, if you check it out you can understand why.
It is rather impressive.

The second I picked is "Everybody's Free ( To wear Sunscreen)" or the Sun Screen song by Baz Luhrmann was released in 1998 and the speech was narrated by Lee Perry. This song was derived from the common names of an essay titled "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young" this was written by Mary Schmich and published in the Chicago Tribune as a column in 1997, but often erroneously attributed to a commencement speech by author Kurt Vonnegut.

I'm not going to elaborate too much on these two songs, I think the words really speak for themselves. However now that I am older, a little larger and somewhat wiser I will say that the words are meaningful enough to really listen to ( I posted the lyrics for "Unpretty" as you can't really hear what she is singing ). Like most of the female population I always used to read beauty magazines, comparing myself to ridiculous images, setting myself ridiculous standards and continuously being hard on myself for not looking the way "I am supposed to look".. I try not to do that anymore. " I am the one and only" ( I quote Chesney Hawkes )and there will only ever be one of me , why would I let magazines and other people try to change who I am and how I look ? There is nothing wrong with striving to be the best you can be, as long as things are kept in perspective and we are achieving our goals for ourselves and not for others.. to make them "happier" with us.

Anyway I could go on and on but I'll stop right there and provide you with these two great videos and the lyrics for "Unpretty" as promised...Have a great day :)

Unpretty Lyrics :

I wish I could tie you up in my shoes
Make you feel unpretty too
I was told I was beautiful
But what does that mean to you
Look into the mirror who's inside there
The one with the long hair
Same old me again today(yeah)

My outsides look cool
My insides are blue
Everytime I think I'm through
It's because of you
I've tried different ways
But it's all the same
At the end of the day
I have myself to blame
I'm just trippin'

*Chorus*
You can buy your hair if it won't grow
You can fix your nose if he says so
You can by all the make-up that M.A.C. can make
But if you can't look inside you find out who I am too
Be in the position to make me feel
So damn unpretty
I'll make you feel unprety too
Never insecure until I met you
Now I'm bein' stupid, I used to be so cute to me
Just a little bit skinny
Why do I look to all these things
To keep you happy
Maybe to get rid of you and then I'll get back to me (hey)

My outsides look cool
My insides are blue
Everytime I think I'm through
It's because of you
I've tried different ways
But it's all the same
At the end of the day
I have myself to blame
Me, I'm trippin'

There will be a message that appears in the Sun screen song below.. before you can play it ( please just ignore this- don't click on it) You can just close these two messages ( there are two crosses you'll just need to click on each of these to close them) and then the video will play for you. Enjoy !!

"Don't worry, be happy"

"Don't worry, be happy" performed by Bobby McFerrin was released in 1988. At the 1989 Grammy Awards it won an award for Song of the year, Record of the year and Best male vocal performance. This was also featured in the 1988 Soundtrack for the movie Cocktail starring Tom Cruise.

If you are feeling down in the dumps try listening to this song, there's a big chance it will cheer you up. Try Either this or retail therapy or a Big Mac Chips and a coke, then see how you feel after? Remember listening to this song is cheaper than retail therapy and better for your diet and health. As Another one of those real feel good songs it has "speak for itself lyrics".

If we are to embrace the subject of worrying, it's important to realise that I am one of those Chronic worriers. Even when I don't really have anything really to worry about, my imaginaiton runs wild and I still manage to find things I can worry about. I know my worrying is an issue to all those close to me and it tends to get out of control at times and I'm finally realising it. You know what they say? You cannot fix a problem if you cannot acknowledge it. Nope, I cannot claim ownership of that "quote".. I believe Dr Phil uses it on his TV show. So I am aware I need to practice what I preach. I don't believe there can be any good that comes out of excessive worrying. It makes us miserable , wastes precious time, it doesn't help us achieve anything , it makes us feel worse and it gives us wrinkles ( from frowning ) making us age prematurely.

It's easier said than done , but I think life is too short to worry about things that haven't even happened yet and the things we have no control over.
My words of wisdom for today.. enjoy your life, appreciate the good, eat and be merry, change the things you can, accept the things you can't and remember "Don't worry, be happy "

"Electric blue"

"Electric blue" recorded by Icehouse in 1987 is another extraordinary 80's song. Another song similar to "Electric Dreams". Guess maybe that has something to do with the title?

The lyrics are clearly about a boy who is infatuated with a girl and he is completely weak at the knees for her. While he is still hopeful she will feel the same way, he is losing faith that she will ever come around.

Unrequited love? Anyone for a cup of unrequited love? I'm throwing in 1 tablespoon of heartache, 3 tablespoons of tears and 2 teaspoons of loss of confidence coupled with 1 teaspoon of self questioning? Who wants it? No one? Are you sure? What if I told you.. you'd get over it? What if drinking this cup meant experiencing happiness again with someone who would give you as much love as you had given to them? What if you could experience the feeling of wonderful gratitude for this requited love? Where am I going with this..well In my opinion I don't think you can really appreciate ( to the same degree ) the wonderful things life has to offer if you haven't really experienced hardships and this thing we call "life". As a great believer in karma, what comes around goes around. We should never be afraid to put our hearts on the line and take a risk because at the end of the day we always get back what we give out.

That being said I wonder if the girl in the song ever noticed this guy and his efforts he made to be noticed ? I'm interested to know if there is anyone out there in the world who has never experienced unrequited love? If it is you.. speak up ? If it is not... speak up anyway :)

Enjoy the lyrics and video

If a boy had a chance
a chance with someone like you
are you gonna break his heart?
let him cry for the moon?
are you hiding somewhere behind those eyes?

I just freeze
everytime you see through me
and it\'s all over you
electric blue
on my knees
help me, baby
tell me, what can I do?
electric blue

Oh, I had a dream
for a moment I believed it was true
oh, I\'d have given anything
just to be there with you
are you hiding
somewhere behind those eyes?

I just freeze
everytime you see through me
and it\'s all over you
electric blue
in too deep
standing here waiting
as I\'m breaking into
electric blue
I can see
can see that it may be just a vision for you
electric blue
on my knees
help me, baby
tell me what can I do?
electric blue

"Must be talking to an Angel"

"Must be talking to an Angel" performed by Eurythmics and written by band members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart features a harmonica solo by the great Stevie Wonder ( I love him ) and was released in 1985.

The lyrics explain the feeling of being put under a spell by another person, even when they aren't around ..they are always there, lingering in your mind and heart.
It's as if "There must be an angel , playing with my heart ". I am sure most people experienced this feeling at least once in their lifetime.. "I'm thrown and overblown with bliss" . It's great, I highly recommend it.. at least once in your lifetime.

I'd like to take this opportunity while we are on the topic of angels to mention how fascinated I am in all things psychic, spiritual and paranormal. Not only is it incredibly interesting, but it's loads of fun too. I've read tarot for a long time and recently I purchased Doreen Virtues Angel Cards, called "Healing with the Angels" I highly recommend these. If you are as into this stuff as I am, you will love these cards. They also have this app available on the iphone , so if you ever have a situation troubling you, you may find you pick a card that is very accurately related to your situation.

My sister in law told me of a story when she was going through a very troubling situation and was really stuck in a rut. Out of the blue a white feather flew into her office and it landed right there in front of her. There were no pillows around her in sight and it was an unusually large white feather. She dismissed it until the very next day.. another white feather decided to land itself in the same room while she was in there. I don't think it meant she was turning into a duck or a chicken either. It is believed that a White Feather ( not the ones from your pillows) is very lucky , it is a sign of an angel visiting us and reassuring us all will be okay and hope is not lost.

Hope you enjoy the lyrics and video..

No-one on earth could feel like this.
I'm thrown and overblown with bliss.
There must be an angel
Playing with my heart.
I walk into an empty room
And suddenly my heart goes "boom"!
It's an orchestra of angels
And they're playing with my heart.

(Must be talking to an angel)

No-one on earth could feel like this.
I'm thrown and overblown with bliss.
There must be an angel
Playing with my heart.
And when I think that I'm alone
It seems there's more of us at home.
It's a multitude of angels
And they're playing with my heart.

Chorus repeats.

I must be hallucinating
Watching angels celebrating.
Could this be reactivating
All my senses dislocating?
This must be a strange deception
By celestial intervention.
Leavin' me the recollection
Of your heavenly connection.

"I knew I loved you"

"I knew I loved you" was recorded by Savage Garden and released in 1999. Darren Hayes is a brilliant singer and this is a truly beautiful song with unforgettable lyrics! AND This is only one of their great hits on their album "Affirmation".

I do have a hidden agenda linked to selecting this song for today. Last night I received the exciting news that my niece was born but unfortunately I couldn't be there to meet her. You see I live in Australia and my family all still live in South Africa. As hard as it is not being able to be there with them, I am thrilled for them. It's so exciting. My brother and sister in law already have 2 other girls , I think they were hoping it was a boy, but it ended up being another girl. Regardless of this, they are so blessed to have 3 healthy little girls. Maybe one day we can all live in the same country , I can still dream can't I?

This song struck a chord with me as a perfect choice for today, as it made me think about the feelings I believe a mother experiences before she meets her new born baby. She knows she loves the baby before she even meets him/her. It's funny to think how our lives constantly change. One day there is no one there and the next day.. it's all about this other person who you devote your whole life to and you can't even imagine how you lived without this precious human being.

This song can also be interpreted to be about the great love of one's life. It speaks of the ability to recognise the right person when they come along. That all encompassing feeling of Deja Vu, that feeling of having met this person before, the impact from that initial meeting.

Have you experienced anything like this before ?

Lyrics and video below

Maybe it's intution
but, somethings you just don't question
like in your eyes,
I see my future in an instant
and there it goes,
I think i've found my best friend
I know that it might sound
more than a li'l crazy, but,
I believe,
I knew i loved you before i met you
I think i dreamed you into life
I knew i loved you before i met you
I have been waitin' all my life

there's just no rhyme or reason
only this sense of completion
like in your eyes,
I see the missing pieces
searchin' for
I think i've found my way home
I know that it might sound
more than a li'l, crazy,
but i believe
I knew i loved you before i met you
I think i dreamed you into life
I knew i loved you before i met you
I have been waitin' all my life.

ooohhh..hooo..woooaahhh....

"The one and only"

"The one and only" was performed by the "one hit wonder" Chesney Hawkes and featured in the film "Buddy's song" in 1991 also starring Chesney Hawkes. This song was featured again in 1991 in the movie "Doc Hollywood", starring Michael J Fox.

The tune is very catchy and the lyrics are smart. I love this song because it touches on the importance of self acceptance. The importance of believing in yourself and knowing that there is.. and will only ever be one and only "You".It's so important to hold our head high and walk with dignity and pride, be proud of who we are .. hence the line " Maybe but all this time I've tried to walk with dignity and pride". Life is not easy , who said it ever would be? Being human I know I have my little daily struggles, but at the end of the day despite what anybody else thinks and says .. I am the one who has to live with myself for the rest of my life and I am the one who will have even bigger struggles to deal with if I don't accept myself for who I am and all the good qualities I have to offer . This life was given to me to make my own decisions about what's best for me, so why should I give my power away? How much power do we give by allowing other people to decide what's best for us and allow them to tell us who we should be and what we should be doing? The questions are these.. why do we try do be something we are not? Why do we try to live up to the impossible standards set by other people and ourselves? Why do we continue to live in other people's shadows? Wouldn't it just be way easier to accept and be happy with who we are?

Lyrics and video below :

I am the one and only oh yeah
Call me, call me by my name or call me by number
You put me through it
I'll still be doing it the way I do it
And yet, you try to make me forget
Who I really am, don't tell me I know best
I'm not the same as all the rest

Chorus:
I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me

I've been a player in the crowd scene
A flicker on the big screen
My soul embraces one more in a million faces
High hopes and aspirations, and years above my station
Maybe but all this time I've tried to walk with dignity and pride

Chorus

I can't wear this uniform without some compromises
Because you'll find out that we come
In different shapes and sizes
No one can be myself like I can
For this job I'm the best man
And while this may be true, you are the one and only you

Chorus (twice)

"I got my mind set on you"

"I got my mind set on you" performed by George Harrison released in 1987 was originally recorded by James Ray in 1962. George Harrison was a great singer , he couldn't have been anything less than that to be part of the Beatles for so long before that. Another great talent gone, but he lives on in his music.

Wierd Al Yankovic did a parody of this song called " This song is just 6 words long" hillarious! I relate to his cover version as this is one of those times I don't have much to say of significance besides the fact that this is day no. 5 on Weight Watchers and I'm dying to open the box of Ferreror Rocher in front of me..In fact it's killing me...I'll reach over for a yogurt instead , that is so not interesting.blah blah blah I'll just leave you with these two videos ....

"Close to you" and "Superstar"

"Close to you" performed by the Carpenters was released in 1970. Although this was released 10 years before my time, the first time I heard Karen Carpenter sing and the first time I heard this song I immediately loved it. I believe this was in the movie/mini series " The Karen Carpenter Story " 1989, which details her life story and her battle with anorexia and bulimia after she became famous. It is a really good movie , another recommendation if you haven't seen it. Her untimely death was such a loss, she was such an incredible talent, with a voice that was so smooth and such a natural gift that she didn't need the machines they use today to tweek the voices.

"Superstar" is another great song by the "Carpenters" released in 1971 , another slow one but incredible music. Ruben Studdard did his version of this song on American Idol in 2003 when he went on to win the title. I always thought he was amazing and he does a great cover of this song. He really sounds like Luther Van Dross !

The lyrics from "Close to you" were once upon a time involved in a texting competition on my cell phone that I had with my significant other. We didn't text the entire song just the first line which was " Why do birds suddenly appear everytime you are near, just like me they long to be close to you" Well I am proud to say I am a very, very, speedy texter and I beat him to it and won that competition. One of the very few things I beat him at. Wait.. I recall winning a couple of times on Guitar Hero also. So I've been told numerous times in my life by a very good friend of mine, that I have a fast arm. Why a fast arm ? Well because I could write ( and can still write ) peculiarly fast , like speedy speedy.. Obviously these days the computer keyboard typing is my writing .

Below are two Carpenter songs, and one is a cover by Ruben Studdard...enjoy!

"Field of Dreams"

I think I'll stop for a few minutes to really introduce myself and my blog ( you know bit late.. but better late than never) I'll explain why this blog is called Fish Talk and why I'm a so called "Delay fish". You see the thing is I tend to delay things a little(okay sometimes a lot),some events include needing to go to the toilet just before we leave the house, my nose deciding to start to irritate me and realising I don't have a tissue, so I just have to run back in to collect a tissue, remembering that I amost forgot to switch off a light and correcting this. These are just a few things that delay me ..but as you can imagine this pretty much drives my boyfriend insane as he continuously mutters " I'm going downstairs I'll see you there" so I inherited this name courtesy of him.

"Fish talk" was derived from the fact that I can talk about hundreds of different topics in a very short span of time( Although I've been well concentrated with my music I think) One topic branches to the next , then on to the next and the next, which pretty much leaves me a bit dazed and confused as to what I started talking about and what my point was to begin with. One of the very things I can talk hours and hours about and go into the night with is.... of course FOOD. I just don't talk enough about it on my blog. I'd love to stick delectable pictures of all that delicious food in the world, but it will just make me hungrier and that is not good for my Weight Watchers. It's just like going shopping when you hungry it's just not recommended. Did I mention to always make sure you are well fed before grocery shopping.

So here in the midst of a hot afternoon sits this box of Ferrero Rocher on the dining room table, unopened and beckoning me to open it and enjoy that instant chocolate high. It has been here for 3 whole days and I want it gone, it's too distracting. My boyfriend brought it back "for me" . No he didn't.. I knew better, he got it as a present from work and brought it back "for me". Now he needs to take it back to work.

As I said I'm branching off into everything so maybe this is a good time to stop now, think carefully and comment. Not me but you! If there is light out there please show it , if you are reading my art .. please comment , If you like it , please follow it. You know what they say "if you write it people will read it" so it all takes time, patience is a virtue so I need to master that.. and nothing is impossible.

The Movie Trailer taken from "Field of Dreams" featuring Kevin Costner, I thought was very suitable today ... this was very appropriate. If you haven't seen this movie... go and see it, I highly recommend it!!

"No more lonely nights"

"No more lonely nights" was written and performed by Paul McCartney and released in 1984. It can be found on the soundtrack of "Give my regards to Broad Street".The song ended up being more of a success than the movie was. This is one of those songs that will always sound good even in 200 years, the melody and the lyrics are perfectly in sync and just beautiful. Paul McCartney is one incredible artist.

The lyrics speak for themselves , I love the line " May I never miss the thrill of being near you" Isn't that beautiful? Who wouldn't want to be told that? As mushy as some may say that I am , I am a sucker for a song with these kind of words. For all you mushies out there who share my love of mushies lets unite and just enjoy a really great feel good song!

Lyrics and Video below

I Can't Wait Another Day Until I Call You
You've Only Got My Heart On A String And Everything A Flutter
But Another Lonley Night (And Another, And Another)
Might Take Forever(And Another, And Another)
We've Only Got Each Other To Blame
It's All The Same To Me Love
'Cause I Know What I Feel To Be Right

No More Lonely Nights
No More Lonely Nights
You're My Guiding Light
Day Or Night I'm Always There

May I Never Miss The Thrill Of Being Near You
And If It Takes A Couple Of Years
To Turn Your Tears To Laughter
I Will Do What I Feel To Be Right

No More Lonely Nights
Never Be Another
No More Lonely Nights
You're My Guiding Light
Day Or Night I'm Always There
And I Won't Go Away Until You Tell Me So
No I'll Never Go Away

Yes I Know What I Feel To Be Right
No More Lonely Nights
Never Be Another
No More Lonely Nights
You're My Guiding Light
Day Or Night I'm Always There
And I Won't Go Away Until You Tell Me So
No I'll Never Go Away
I Won't Go Away Until You Tell Me So
No I'll Never Go Away
No More Lonely Nights, No No...

"Higher Love"

"Higher Love" written and performed by Steve Winwood was a 1986, number one hit which won 2 Grammys for record of the year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Another song which sounds very similar to some of the other hits by Billy Ocean such as " Get outta my car, get into my dreams". They both have great voices!

My interpretation of this song is that it talks about a "Higher Love" which is G_d. Without getting too religious and ahead of myself, I think the song says that we tend to get caught up in the everyday, mundane, material things of the world and we simply tend to exist rather than really live. Which eventually makes us question what our purpose is and lead us to feel pity on ourselves and for the "sad" world we live in. This ultimately makes us start to look to a "Higher Love" to help us through..

Lyrics and video below

Think about it, there must be higher love
Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above
Without it, life is a wasted time
Look inside your heart, I'll look inside mine
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be

Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?

Worlds are turning and we're just hanging on
Facing our fear and standing out there alone
A yearning, and it's real to me
There must be someone who's feeling for me
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be

Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?

Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring be a higher love
I could rise above on a higher love

I will wait for it
I'm not too late for it
Until then, I'll sing my song
To cheer the night along
Bring it...Oh bring it...

I could light the night up with my soul on fire
I could make the sun shine from pure desire
Let me feel that love come over me
Let me feel how strong it could be

Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?

"When the going gets tough"

"When the going gets tough(the tough get going)" was performed by Billy Ocean and recorded in 1985 as the theme song for the movie "Jewel of the Nile" starring Cathleen Turner, Danny DeVito and Michael Douglas. The meaning of the song title refers to a situation that becomes difficult and motivates the strong to become even stronger and be able to stand up and meet the challenge. Billy Ocean has a voice which is raw talent! To be able to sing live and sound that good without using any machines to manipulate the voice while recording.. speaks volumes!

Boyzone did their cover version of this song in 1999 which turned out to be quite a hit at the time. They are good but they are no Billy Ocean!

This song is a winner, I think the lyrics and song are so great as I relate in my own way. After immigrating I spent a long period of time unemployed due to my visa restrictions, but eventually when I had the ability to work I started applying for jobs straight away. I went for a couple of interviews, none of them were easy for me as I wasn't a very experienced interviewee( is that the right word?), but luckily I didn't have to go through too many interviews to start with and I ended up getting a general administrative contract job for 3 months. I didn't think that after leaving that first job that I would have to wait 3 months and go through sheer hell attending one interview after another. After all, it was relatively quick that I got my first temp job. I guess considering I wanted to go more specialised into my area of commerce, which is what I had studied made it harder and the fact I had no experience in that area didn't help either. I went for countless interviews, I got knocked down countless times. One rejection after another, snotty people interviewing me and coming out feeling hopeless. Regardless, I picked myself up each time and I carried on.

Eventually there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel when I interviewed for what I thought was a "Marketing job" ( I studied marketing as part of my degree so I was open to both commerce and marketing) I hit the jackpot , I got the best job I ever had in Sydney or so I thought. Boy was I wrong! I ended up staying there for 3 weeks when they dismissed me. I was devastated but I saw it coming. The job was nothing I had expected , they just wanted me to sell, it was all cold calling and it terrified me. Everyone who knew me knew I was no salesperson when it comes to picking up a phone and trying to sell to a complete stranger.

So it was devastating for me, the relief came some time after, when I felt free again. Once my confidence resurfaced, I worked hard, applying for more jobs and the right jobs and yes, I found the job of my dreams at one of the biggest banks in the world and I was very lucky working with the best team ever. I ended up working there for 2 years and sadly I left as we relocated to another city.

So here I am in a new city and I've been here for 1 year, I have had contract work at another bank here for 6 months. Those were probably a very dark 6 months for me. I was very unhappy and that came to an end. I haven't been working now for 4 months and I am dreading having to go for interviews again. However I can choose to look at this as a new start , as one door closing and another door opening. I can choose to venture into a whole new area, I may even study a whole new field and work part time..who knows? All I know now is this song is what I needed to hear right about now .. because "When the going gets tough..."

Both versions below, which do you prefer?

"Jump (for my love)"

"Jump (for my love)" performed by the Pointer Sisters and released in 1983 received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with vocal in 1985. The song was since used in a number of series and movies. In 2005 the original version was used in "Love Actually" while Girls Aloud came out with their own cover version of "Jump(for my love)" which portrayed scenes from "Love Actually" in their music video.

I always associated this song with "What a feeling" from the movie "Flashdance". It was released around the same time and it has that same energetic, powerful and motivational feel to it! You feel like you can jump leaps and bounds when you hear it.That motivation is needed right now as this is my second day on Weight Watchers , so far so good but I'm not ready to jump over to the treadmill just yet.

I've attached both versions of this song. The cover is pretty good but you know what I think of covers? Not many singers can come close to touching the original!

"I'll never get over you getting over me"

"I'll never get over you getting over me" was released in early 1993 , written by Dianne Warren and performed by Expos'e. Expos'e was a female pop trio and this was their last top 40 hit.

I was introduced to this song by one of my oldest best friends who I've known since I was 8. She always had impeccable taste in music ( just like me hehe).I would always serenade this to my karaoke machine and was yet another song I would try to hit the high notes with. I recall trying to go as high as the lead singer with the line "As long as the river runs to the sea" thinking I was Whitney Houston. I almost got that high note if it's any consolation.

This is one of those songs that once you hear it you just can't stop listening to it. It's a song with soul and put together simply brilliantly. The lead singer, Jeanette Jurado has an extraordinary voice, she is just brilliant and yet she just disappeared, seems like such a waste of such talent that she didn't seem to have continued! The saxophonist Euge Groove was also incredible as he performed his sax solo.

I never really took the lyrics into consideration when I first heard this song. I was too young to understand relationships and too young to be able to relate. However watching the video now and reading the lyrics makes me understand and feel her pain. I project myself and imagine and how it would feel for my relationship to end. It's just like a knife through the heart. Obviously in the song she is singing about a break up and how her ex has probably moved on and how she feels like she'll never move on and get over him. I guess it's like most of the songs which sing about breakups and love. But to me this one's different , it somehow seems to hit differently evoking a great deal of emotion.

Here are the lyrics and video..

I hear you're taking the town again.
Havin' a good time
With all your good-time friends.
I don't think that you think of me.
You're on your own now
And I'm alone and free.

I know that I should get on with my life,
But a life lived without you could never be right.

As long as the stars shine down from the heavens,
Long as the rivers run to the sea,
I'll never get over you getting over me.

I try to smile so the hurt won't show
Tell everybody that I was glad to see you go
But the tears just won't go away (Won't go away)
Loneliness found me
Looks like it's here to stay

I know that I oughta find someone new
But all I find is myself always thinkin' of you

As long as the stars shine down from the heavens
Long as the rivers run to the sea
I'll never get over you getting over me.

Oh! No matter what I do
Each night's a lifetime to live through
I can't go on like this
I need your touch
You're the only one I'll ever love

Oh, oh.. ah....

And as long as the stars shine down from the heavens
Long as the rivers run to the sea
I'll never get over you getting over me.

I'll never get over you getting over

Never get over you getting over

I'll never get over you getting over me
