"Don't worry, be happy" performed by Bobby McFerrin was released in 1988. At the 1989 Grammy Awards it won an award for Song of the year, Record of the year and Best male vocal performance. This was also featured in the 1988 Soundtrack for the movie Cocktail starring Tom Cruise.
If you are feeling down in the dumps try listening to this song, there's a big chance it will cheer you up. Try Either this or retail therapy or a Big Mac Chips and a coke, then see how you feel after? Remember listening to this song is cheaper than retail therapy and better for your diet and health. As Another one of those real feel good songs it has "speak for itself lyrics".
If we are to embrace the subject of worrying, it's important to realise that I am one of those Chronic worriers. Even when I don't really have anything really to worry about, my imaginaiton runs wild and I still manage to find things I can worry about. I know my worrying is an issue to all those close to me and it tends to get out of control at times and I'm finally realising it. You know what they say? You cannot fix a problem if you cannot acknowledge it. Nope, I cannot claim ownership of that "quote".. I believe Dr Phil uses it on his TV show. So I am aware I need to practice what I preach. I don't believe there can be any good that comes out of excessive worrying. It makes us miserable , wastes precious time, it doesn't help us achieve anything , it makes us feel worse and it gives us wrinkles ( from frowning ) making us age prematurely.
It's easier said than done , but I think life is too short to worry about things that haven't even happened yet and the things we have no control over.
My words of wisdom for today.. enjoy your life, appreciate the good, eat and be merry, change the things you can, accept the things you can't and remember "Don't worry, be happy "

"Electric blue"
"Electric blue" recorded by Icehouse in 1987 is another extraordinary 80's song. Another song similar to "Electric Dreams". Guess maybe that has something to do with the title?
The lyrics are clearly about a boy who is infatuated with a girl and he is completely weak at the knees for her. While he is still hopeful she will feel the same way, he is losing faith that she will ever come around.
Unrequited love? Anyone for a cup of unrequited love? I'm throwing in 1 tablespoon of heartache, 3 tablespoons of tears and 2 teaspoons of loss of confidence coupled with 1 teaspoon of self questioning? Who wants it? No one? Are you sure? What if I told you.. you'd get over it? What if drinking this cup meant experiencing happiness again with someone who would give you as much love as you had given to them? What if you could experience the feeling of wonderful gratitude for this requited love? Where am I going with this..well In my opinion I don't think you can really appreciate ( to the same degree ) the wonderful things life has to offer if you haven't really experienced hardships and this thing we call "life". As a great believer in karma, what comes around goes around. We should never be afraid to put our hearts on the line and take a risk because at the end of the day we always get back what we give out.
That being said I wonder if the girl in the song ever noticed this guy and his efforts he made to be noticed ? I'm interested to know if there is anyone out there in the world who has never experienced unrequited love? If it is you.. speak up ? If it is not... speak up anyway :)
Enjoy the lyrics and video
If a boy had a chance
a chance with someone like you
are you gonna break his heart?
let him cry for the moon?
are you hiding somewhere behind those eyes?
I just freeze
everytime you see through me
and it\'s all over you
electric blue
on my knees
help me, baby
tell me, what can I do?
electric blue
Oh, I had a dream
for a moment I believed it was true
oh, I\'d have given anything
just to be there with you
are you hiding
somewhere behind those eyes?
I just freeze
everytime you see through me
and it\'s all over you
electric blue
in too deep
standing here waiting
as I\'m breaking into
electric blue
I can see
can see that it may be just a vision for you
electric blue
on my knees
help me, baby
tell me what can I do?
electric blue

"Must be talking to an Angel"
"Must be talking to an Angel" performed by Eurythmics and written by band members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart features a harmonica solo by the great Stevie Wonder ( I love him ) and was released in 1985.
The lyrics explain the feeling of being put under a spell by another person, even when they aren't around ..they are always there, lingering in your mind and heart.
It's as if "There must be an angel , playing with my heart ". I am sure most people experienced this feeling at least once in their lifetime.. "I'm thrown and overblown with bliss" . It's great, I highly recommend it.. at least once in your lifetime.
I'd like to take this opportunity while we are on the topic of angels to mention how fascinated I am in all things psychic, spiritual and paranormal. Not only is it incredibly interesting, but it's loads of fun too. I've read tarot for a long time and recently I purchased Doreen Virtues Angel Cards, called "Healing with the Angels" I highly recommend these. If you are as into this stuff as I am, you will love these cards. They also have this app available on the iphone , so if you ever have a situation troubling you, you may find you pick a card that is very accurately related to your situation.
My sister in law told me of a story when she was going through a very troubling situation and was really stuck in a rut. Out of the blue a white feather flew into her office and it landed right there in front of her. There were no pillows around her in sight and it was an unusually large white feather. She dismissed it until the very next day.. another white feather decided to land itself in the same room while she was in there. I don't think it meant she was turning into a duck or a chicken either. It is believed that a White Feather ( not the ones from your pillows) is very lucky , it is a sign of an angel visiting us and reassuring us all will be okay and hope is not lost.
Hope you enjoy the lyrics and video..
No-one on earth could feel like this.
I'm thrown and overblown with bliss.
There must be an angel
Playing with my heart.
I walk into an empty room
And suddenly my heart goes "boom"!
It's an orchestra of angels
And they're playing with my heart.
(Must be talking to an angel)
No-one on earth could feel like this.
I'm thrown and overblown with bliss.
There must be an angel
Playing with my heart.
And when I think that I'm alone
It seems there's more of us at home.
It's a multitude of angels
And they're playing with my heart.
Chorus repeats.
I must be hallucinating
Watching angels celebrating.
Could this be reactivating
All my senses dislocating?
This must be a strange deception
By celestial intervention.
Leavin' me the recollection
Of your heavenly connection.

"I knew I loved you"
"I knew I loved you" was recorded by Savage Garden and released in 1999. Darren Hayes is a brilliant singer and this is a truly beautiful song with unforgettable lyrics! AND This is only one of their great hits on their album "Affirmation".
I do have a hidden agenda linked to selecting this song for today. Last night I received the exciting news that my niece was born but unfortunately I couldn't be there to meet her. You see I live in Australia and my family all still live in South Africa. As hard as it is not being able to be there with them, I am thrilled for them. It's so exciting. My brother and sister in law already have 2 other girls , I think they were hoping it was a boy, but it ended up being another girl. Regardless of this, they are so blessed to have 3 healthy little girls. Maybe one day we can all live in the same country , I can still dream can't I?
This song struck a chord with me as a perfect choice for today, as it made me think about the feelings I believe a mother experiences before she meets her new born baby. She knows she loves the baby before she even meets him/her. It's funny to think how our lives constantly change. One day there is no one there and the next day.. it's all about this other person who you devote your whole life to and you can't even imagine how you lived without this precious human being.
This song can also be interpreted to be about the great love of one's life. It speaks of the ability to recognise the right person when they come along. That all encompassing feeling of Deja Vu, that feeling of having met this person before, the impact from that initial meeting.
Have you experienced anything like this before ?
Lyrics and video below
Maybe it's intution
but, somethings you just don't question
like in your eyes,
I see my future in an instant
and there it goes,
I think i've found my best friend
I know that it might sound
more than a li'l crazy, but,
I believe,
I knew i loved you before i met you
I think i dreamed you into life
I knew i loved you before i met you
I have been waitin' all my life
there's just no rhyme or reason
only this sense of completion
like in your eyes,
I see the missing pieces
searchin' for
I think i've found my way home
I know that it might sound
more than a li'l, crazy,
but i believe
I knew i loved you before i met you
I think i dreamed you into life
I knew i loved you before i met you
I have been waitin' all my life.
ooohhh..hooo..woooaahhh....

"The one and only"
"The one and only" was performed by the "one hit wonder" Chesney Hawkes and featured in the film "Buddy's song" in 1991 also starring Chesney Hawkes. This song was featured again in 1991 in the movie "Doc Hollywood", starring Michael J Fox.
The tune is very catchy and the lyrics are smart. I love this song because it touches on the importance of self acceptance. The importance of believing in yourself and knowing that there is.. and will only ever be one and only "You".It's so important to hold our head high and walk with dignity and pride, be proud of who we are .. hence the line " Maybe but all this time I've tried to walk with dignity and pride". Life is not easy , who said it ever would be? Being human I know I have my little daily struggles, but at the end of the day despite what anybody else thinks and says .. I am the one who has to live with myself for the rest of my life and I am the one who will have even bigger struggles to deal with if I don't accept myself for who I am and all the good qualities I have to offer . This life was given to me to make my own decisions about what's best for me, so why should I give my power away? How much power do we give by allowing other people to decide what's best for us and allow them to tell us who we should be and what we should be doing? The questions are these.. why do we try do be something we are not? Why do we try to live up to the impossible standards set by other people and ourselves? Why do we continue to live in other people's shadows? Wouldn't it just be way easier to accept and be happy with who we are?
Lyrics and video below :
I am the one and only oh yeah
Call me, call me by my name or call me by number
You put me through it
I'll still be doing it the way I do it
And yet, you try to make me forget
Who I really am, don't tell me I know best
I'm not the same as all the rest
Chorus:
I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me
I've been a player in the crowd scene
A flicker on the big screen
My soul embraces one more in a million faces
High hopes and aspirations, and years above my station
Maybe but all this time I've tried to walk with dignity and pride
Chorus
I can't wear this uniform without some compromises
Because you'll find out that we come
In different shapes and sizes
No one can be myself like I can
For this job I'm the best man
And while this may be true, you are the one and only you
Chorus (twice)

"I got my mind set on you"
"I got my mind set on you" performed by George Harrison released in 1987 was originally recorded by James Ray in 1962. George Harrison was a great singer , he couldn't have been anything less than that to be part of the Beatles for so long before that. Another great talent gone, but he lives on in his music.
Wierd Al Yankovic did a parody of this song called " This song is just 6 words long" hillarious! I relate to his cover version as this is one of those times I don't have much to say of significance besides the fact that this is day no. 5 on Weight Watchers and I'm dying to open the box of Ferreror Rocher in front of me..In fact it's killing me...I'll reach over for a yogurt instead , that is so not interesting.blah blah blah I'll just leave you with these two videos ....

"Close to you" and "Superstar"
"Close to you" performed by the Carpenters was released in 1970. Although this was released 10 years before my time, the first time I heard Karen Carpenter sing and the first time I heard this song I immediately loved it. I believe this was in the movie/mini series " The Karen Carpenter Story " 1989, which details her life story and her battle with anorexia and bulimia after she became famous. It is a really good movie , another recommendation if you haven't seen it. Her untimely death was such a loss, she was such an incredible talent, with a voice that was so smooth and such a natural gift that she didn't need the machines they use today to tweek the voices.
"Superstar" is another great song by the "Carpenters" released in 1971 , another slow one but incredible music. Ruben Studdard did his version of this song on American Idol in 2003 when he went on to win the title. I always thought he was amazing and he does a great cover of this song. He really sounds like Luther Van Dross !
The lyrics from "Close to you" were once upon a time involved in a texting competition on my cell phone that I had with my significant other. We didn't text the entire song just the first line which was " Why do birds suddenly appear everytime you are near, just like me they long to be close to you" Well I am proud to say I am a very, very, speedy texter and I beat him to it and won that competition. One of the very few things I beat him at. Wait.. I recall winning a couple of times on Guitar Hero also. So I've been told numerous times in my life by a very good friend of mine, that I have a fast arm. Why a fast arm ? Well because I could write ( and can still write ) peculiarly fast , like speedy speedy.. Obviously these days the computer keyboard typing is my writing .
Below are two Carpenter songs, and one is a cover by Ruben Studdard...enjoy!

"Field of Dreams"
I think I'll stop for a few minutes to really introduce myself and my blog ( you know bit late.. but better late than never) I'll explain why this blog is called Fish Talk and why I'm a so called "Delay fish". You see the thing is I tend to delay things a little(okay sometimes a lot),some events include needing to go to the toilet just before we leave the house, my nose deciding to start to irritate me and realising I don't have a tissue, so I just have to run back in to collect a tissue, remembering that I amost forgot to switch off a light and correcting this. These are just a few things that delay me ..but as you can imagine this pretty much drives my boyfriend insane as he continuously mutters " I'm going downstairs I'll see you there" so I inherited this name courtesy of him.
"Fish talk" was derived from the fact that I can talk about hundreds of different topics in a very short span of time( Although I've been well concentrated with my music I think) One topic branches to the next , then on to the next and the next, which pretty much leaves me a bit dazed and confused as to what I started talking about and what my point was to begin with. One of the very things I can talk hours and hours about and go into the night with is.... of course FOOD. I just don't talk enough about it on my blog. I'd love to stick delectable pictures of all that delicious food in the world, but it will just make me hungrier and that is not good for my Weight Watchers. It's just like going shopping when you hungry it's just not recommended. Did I mention to always make sure you are well fed before grocery shopping.
So here in the midst of a hot afternoon sits this box of Ferrero Rocher on the dining room table, unopened and beckoning me to open it and enjoy that instant chocolate high. It has been here for 3 whole days and I want it gone, it's too distracting. My boyfriend brought it back "for me" . No he didn't.. I knew better, he got it as a present from work and brought it back "for me". Now he needs to take it back to work.
As I said I'm branching off into everything so maybe this is a good time to stop now, think carefully and comment. Not me but you! If there is light out there please show it , if you are reading my art .. please comment , If you like it , please follow it. You know what they say "if you write it people will read it" so it all takes time, patience is a virtue so I need to master that.. and nothing is impossible.
The Movie Trailer taken from "Field of Dreams" featuring Kevin Costner, I thought was very suitable today ... this was very appropriate. If you haven't seen this movie... go and see it, I highly recommend it!!

"No more lonely nights"
"No more lonely nights" was written and performed by Paul McCartney and released in 1984. It can be found on the soundtrack of "Give my regards to Broad Street".The song ended up being more of a success than the movie was. This is one of those songs that will always sound good even in 200 years, the melody and the lyrics are perfectly in sync and just beautiful. Paul McCartney is one incredible artist.
The lyrics speak for themselves , I love the line " May I never miss the thrill of being near you" Isn't that beautiful? Who wouldn't want to be told that? As mushy as some may say that I am , I am a sucker for a song with these kind of words. For all you mushies out there who share my love of mushies lets unite and just enjoy a really great feel good song!
Lyrics and Video below
I Can't Wait Another Day Until I Call You
You've Only Got My Heart On A String And Everything A Flutter
But Another Lonley Night (And Another, And Another)
Might Take Forever(And Another, And Another)
We've Only Got Each Other To Blame
It's All The Same To Me Love
'Cause I Know What I Feel To Be Right
No More Lonely Nights
No More Lonely Nights
You're My Guiding Light
Day Or Night I'm Always There
May I Never Miss The Thrill Of Being Near You
And If It Takes A Couple Of Years
To Turn Your Tears To Laughter
I Will Do What I Feel To Be Right
No More Lonely Nights
Never Be Another
No More Lonely Nights
You're My Guiding Light
Day Or Night I'm Always There
And I Won't Go Away Until You Tell Me So
No I'll Never Go Away
Yes I Know What I Feel To Be Right
No More Lonely Nights
Never Be Another
No More Lonely Nights
You're My Guiding Light
Day Or Night I'm Always There
And I Won't Go Away Until You Tell Me So
No I'll Never Go Away

"Higher Love"
"Higher Love" written and performed by Steve Winwood was a 1986, number one hit which won 2 Grammys for record of the year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Another song which sounds very similar to some of the other hits by Billy Ocean such as " Get outta my car, get into my dreams". They both have great voices!
My interpretation of this song is that it talks about a "Higher Love" which is G_d. Without getting too religious and ahead of myself, I think the song says that we tend to get caught up in the everyday, mundane, material things of the world and we simply tend to exist rather than really live. Which eventually makes us question what our purpose is and lead us to feel pity on ourselves and for the "sad" world we live in. This ultimately makes us start to look to a "Higher Love" to help us through..
Lyrics and video below
Think about it, there must be higher love
Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above
Without it, life is a wasted time
Look inside your heart, I'll look inside mine
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?
Worlds are turning and we're just hanging on
Facing our fear and standing out there alone
A yearning, and it's real to me
There must be someone who's feeling for me
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring be a higher love
I could rise above on a higher love
I will wait for it
I'm not too late for it
Until then, I'll sing my song
To cheer the night along
Bring it...Oh bring it...
I could light the night up with my soul on fire
I could make the sun shine from pure desire
Let me feel that love come over me
Let me feel how strong it could be
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?

"When the going gets tough"
"When the going gets tough(the tough get going)" was performed by Billy Ocean and recorded in 1985 as the theme song for the movie "Jewel of the Nile" starring Cathleen Turner, Danny DeVito and Michael Douglas. The meaning of the song title refers to a situation that becomes difficult and motivates the strong to become even stronger and be able to stand up and meet the challenge. Billy Ocean has a voice which is raw talent! To be able to sing live and sound that good without using any machines to manipulate the voice while recording.. speaks volumes!
Boyzone did their cover version of this song in 1999 which turned out to be quite a hit at the time. They are good but they are no Billy Ocean!
This song is a winner, I think the lyrics and song are so great as I relate in my own way. After immigrating I spent a long period of time unemployed due to my visa restrictions, but eventually when I had the ability to work I started applying for jobs straight away. I went for a couple of interviews, none of them were easy for me as I wasn't a very experienced interviewee( is that the right word?), but luckily I didn't have to go through too many interviews to start with and I ended up getting a general administrative contract job for 3 months. I didn't think that after leaving that first job that I would have to wait 3 months and go through sheer hell attending one interview after another. After all, it was relatively quick that I got my first temp job. I guess considering I wanted to go more specialised into my area of commerce, which is what I had studied made it harder and the fact I had no experience in that area didn't help either. I went for countless interviews, I got knocked down countless times. One rejection after another, snotty people interviewing me and coming out feeling hopeless. Regardless, I picked myself up each time and I carried on.
Eventually there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel when I interviewed for what I thought was a "Marketing job" ( I studied marketing as part of my degree so I was open to both commerce and marketing) I hit the jackpot , I got the best job I ever had in Sydney or so I thought. Boy was I wrong! I ended up staying there for 3 weeks when they dismissed me. I was devastated but I saw it coming. The job was nothing I had expected , they just wanted me to sell, it was all cold calling and it terrified me. Everyone who knew me knew I was no salesperson when it comes to picking up a phone and trying to sell to a complete stranger.
So it was devastating for me, the relief came some time after, when I felt free again. Once my confidence resurfaced, I worked hard, applying for more jobs and the right jobs and yes, I found the job of my dreams at one of the biggest banks in the world and I was very lucky working with the best team ever. I ended up working there for 2 years and sadly I left as we relocated to another city.
So here I am in a new city and I've been here for 1 year, I have had contract work at another bank here for 6 months. Those were probably a very dark 6 months for me. I was very unhappy and that came to an end. I haven't been working now for 4 months and I am dreading having to go for interviews again. However I can choose to look at this as a new start , as one door closing and another door opening. I can choose to venture into a whole new area, I may even study a whole new field and work part time..who knows? All I know now is this song is what I needed to hear right about now .. because "When the going gets tough..."
Both versions below, which do you prefer?

"Jump (for my love)"
"Jump (for my love)" performed by the Pointer Sisters and released in 1983 received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with vocal in 1985. The song was since used in a number of series and movies. In 2005 the original version was used in "Love Actually" while Girls Aloud came out with their own cover version of "Jump(for my love)" which portrayed scenes from "Love Actually" in their music video.
I always associated this song with "What a feeling" from the movie "Flashdance". It was released around the same time and it has that same energetic, powerful and motivational feel to it! You feel like you can jump leaps and bounds when you hear it.That motivation is needed right now as this is my second day on Weight Watchers , so far so good but I'm not ready to jump over to the treadmill just yet.
I've attached both versions of this song. The cover is pretty good but you know what I think of covers? Not many singers can come close to touching the original!

"I'll never get over you getting over me"
"I'll never get over you getting over me" was released in early 1993 , written by Dianne Warren and performed by Expos'e. Expos'e was a female pop trio and this was their last top 40 hit.
I was introduced to this song by one of my oldest best friends who I've known since I was 8. She always had impeccable taste in music ( just like me hehe).I would always serenade this to my karaoke machine and was yet another song I would try to hit the high notes with. I recall trying to go as high as the lead singer with the line "As long as the river runs to the sea" thinking I was Whitney Houston. I almost got that high note if it's any consolation.
This is one of those songs that once you hear it you just can't stop listening to it. It's a song with soul and put together simply brilliantly. The lead singer, Jeanette Jurado has an extraordinary voice, she is just brilliant and yet she just disappeared, seems like such a waste of such talent that she didn't seem to have continued! The saxophonist Euge Groove was also incredible as he performed his sax solo.
I never really took the lyrics into consideration when I first heard this song. I was too young to understand relationships and too young to be able to relate. However watching the video now and reading the lyrics makes me understand and feel her pain. I project myself and imagine and how it would feel for my relationship to end. It's just like a knife through the heart. Obviously in the song she is singing about a break up and how her ex has probably moved on and how she feels like she'll never move on and get over him. I guess it's like most of the songs which sing about breakups and love. But to me this one's different , it somehow seems to hit differently evoking a great deal of emotion.
Here are the lyrics and video..
I hear you're taking the town again.
Havin' a good time
With all your good-time friends.
I don't think that you think of me.
You're on your own now
And I'm alone and free.
I know that I should get on with my life,
But a life lived without you could never be right.
As long as the stars shine down from the heavens,
Long as the rivers run to the sea,
I'll never get over you getting over me.
I try to smile so the hurt won't show
Tell everybody that I was glad to see you go
But the tears just won't go away (Won't go away)
Loneliness found me
Looks like it's here to stay
I know that I oughta find someone new
But all I find is myself always thinkin' of you
As long as the stars shine down from the heavens
Long as the rivers run to the sea
I'll never get over you getting over me.
Oh! No matter what I do
Each night's a lifetime to live through
I can't go on like this
I need your touch
You're the only one I'll ever love
Oh, oh.. ah....
And as long as the stars shine down from the heavens
Long as the rivers run to the sea
I'll never get over you getting over me.
I'll never get over you getting over
Never get over you getting over
I'll never get over you getting over me

"I just can't stop loving you"
"I just can't stop loving you" released in 1987 was peformed and composed by Michael Jackson featuring a duet with Siedah Garrett. It was originally intended to be a duet with Michael and the woman of his choice , either Barbara Streisand or Whitney Houston but they had other obligations. Michael stated the song wasn't written with anyone in mind but he was thinking of someone when singing it live. Labelled as the King of Pop , Michael Jackson was a jack of all trades in the entertainment area and was recorded in the Guiness Book of Records as the most successful entertainer of all time. Sadly he died from Cardiac Arrest on the 25 June 2009 creating world wide grief as people and fans around the world watched his memorial service live on TV.
I've never been a big Michael Jackson fan, but I do recognise an incredible entertainer, singer, songwriter and dancer when I see one. My friend's sister used to have a sticker up in her room saying "I love Michael Jackson". This was back around 88, she also had his posters all over her magnificent bedroom( I really thought she had the best bedroom a teenager could ever have). Although she adored Michael at that time, the phase blew over for her when a year later the same sticker appeared and read as "I loved Michael Jackson" where she had crossed out "I love". Not an entirely forever, loyal fan but a fan for a period of time nonetheless. It goes to show that I'm sure most of the world population must have had a "Michael Jackson" phase in their life. The man deserves credibility as an entertainer, he is a great, great performer despite the hundreds of transformations he underwent and despite the allegations made. Although I never had any of his albums, my phase was loving just one Michael Jackson song. I thought ( and still think ) his best song was "I just can't stop loving you".

"Little Lies"
"Little Lies" which I always thought was called "Tell me lies" is another song by Fleetwood Mac from 1987. Another one of their great tunes , extremely catchy and clever lyrics.
It's so easy to convince one's self that everything is fine and deny any problem even exist in any situation. It can feel like we have two seperate beings, alive and well, living inside of our selves. While a segment of one's self knows there is something that isn't right and doesn't feel right , the other segment doesn't want to believe it so it continues to exist and feed off denial. This other segment(denial) appears so overpowering at first, that it even convinces us to believe that nothing is wrong and all is just perfect. However eventually denial gradually wears off by revealing it's constant need for reassurance and evidence that all is just fine. If that includes telling "sweet little lies" then so be it as this allows us to wallow further in denial. When denial eventually wears off ( as it does) and when the reassurance cannot continue on whenever, when the evidence cannot be provided for whenever, when the lies cannot be told whenever, the realisation sets in to inform us that things just aren't right and those feelings just aren't right and the inevitable becomes exactly that.. it becomes the inevitable.
We all get stuck in denial at some point in our lives and unfortunately we think we not in denial ( hence the word denial). I realised today I've been in denial about my weight and my attempts at trying to lose it. If I don't weigh myself and I wear my big pants.. I didn't really put on weight and I can continue to eat whatever I want. So today was the day I finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself and the scale reared it's ugly head at me reflecting those ugly numbers. So Today I started Weight Watchers again and today I begin my weight loss journey. So Watch this space.
The lyrics of the song speak of denial in a relationship. Knowing in your gut and heart that things aren't right and yet denying their very existence. Wanting so badly for things to work out and remaining in limbo , floating somewhere in between. Begging for that person to tell you "sweet little lies" to have it all make sense , while only making sense of the overpowering "denial".

If I could turn the page
In time then I'd rearrange just a day or two
Close my, close my, close my eyes
But I couldn't find a way
So I'll settle for one day to belive in you
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet, little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can't disguise
(You can't disguise, no you can't disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
Although I'm not making plans
I hope that you understand there's a reason why
Close your, close your, close your eyes
No more broken hearts
We're better off apart, let's give it a try
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet, little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can't disguise
(You can't disguise, no you can't disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
[Instrumental]

"The Living Years"
"The Living Years" was released in 1988 and performed by Mike and the Mechanics. Mike and the Mechanics was started in 1984 as a side project of Mike Rutherford , who was a founding member of Genesis."The Living Years" was co-written by Rutherford and B.A. Robertson whose fathers had died recently.Paul Carrack being the lead singer had also lost his father when he was only 11 years old therefore adding more authenticity to the song. The Band included Rutherford, Paul Carrack and Paul Young as the vocalists, Adrian Lee on the Keyboard and Peter Van Hooke - the drummer.
Sadly Paul Young died in 2000 from a Heart Attack and the band reformed as "Mike and the Mechanics featuring Paul Carrack"
A very sentimental song, hearing this on the radio in 88 it was around the time my grandfather died and I was about 8. I don't remember a whole lot about him as I was very young but I do remember my father(as it was his father) and how devastated he was. My Grandfather passed away from Lung Cancer and from that day on my father never smoked another cigarette again. This song and it's lyrics are really chilling but at the same time so honest and real.
The line that really speaks to me is "I think I caught his spirit Later that same year I'm sure I heard his echo In my baby's new born tears "
Below are the lyrics and video :
Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door
I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I'm afraid that's all we've got
You say you just don't see it
He says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye
So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It's the bitterness that lasts
So Don't yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don't give up, and don't give in
You may just be O.K.
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye
I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die

"King of Wishful Thinking"
"King of Wishful Thinking" is from the 1990 soundtrack of "Pretty Woman" and performed by the British Pop Band Go West. Great song!
The year 1990- I was 10 years old and I bought the cassette tape or should I say my mother bought me the tape. I was so proud when I got it, as I had seen "Pretty Woman" and I loved the movie( I still love that movie I've seen it like a gazillion times), it's like a Modern Fairy Tale/Cinderella Story. Well in real life there's not a big chance of a prostitute meeting a rich, successful and good man, who takes her under his wing and turns her into a princess. But it is one of those movies that make you feel good after you see it and that's usually the feeling we as humans are after.
One of the girls in school thought I was such a "nerd" because I brought the cassette to school months after it was already off "the scene" and I used to always listen to it over and over again. I guess I've always been a "nerd" because I still love music from way back and most of the people out there who like old music must also be "nerds". I'm proud to still love this song and I've never been prouder to be a "nerd".
The Video below is the live version, as I couldn't get hold of a good quality original video. Peter Cox's Vocals are very good considering it's all live.

"Everytime you go away"
"Everytime you go away" was performed by Paul Young in 1985. It appeared at the end of the movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles " with John Candy.
A very special 80's song , the line "Everytime you go away, you take a piece of me with you" is just beautiful. Call me mushy I don't care. Not a great music video and check out his mullet hehe . The place I currently reside.. they are in a time warp they all look like they stepped out of the 80's with those mullets. Thank goodness we have new fashion in the rest of the world! I can't say the same for some of the music of our time..
Lyrics:
Hey, If we can solve any problem
Then why do we lose so many tears
Oh, and so you go again
When the leading man appears
Always the same thing
Can't you see, we've got everything goin' on and on and on
Every time you go away you take a piece of me with you
Every time you go away you take a piece of me with you
Go on and go free, yeah
Maybe you're too close to see
I can feel your body move
It doesn't mean that much to me
I can't go on sayin' the same thing
Just can't you see, we've got everything do you even know we know
Every time you go away you take a piece of me with you, oh
Every time you go away you take a piece of me with you
I can't go on sayin' the same thing
'Cause baby, can't ya see, we've got everything goin' on and on and on
Every time you go away you take a piece of me with you
Every time you go away you take a piece of me with you

( Everything I do ) I do it for you
Another Power Ballad by Bryan Adams featured on the soundtrack for the 1991 movie "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" It won a Grammy for best song at the Grammys in 1992.
I first heard Bryan Adam's albums back in the 90's when my brother bought his entire CD from 1993 called "So far so good" which featured an incredible variety of songs. All the music I heard from this album is great, but I picked this one specifically as it's always been my favourite of all of his songs.
First I've posted the original by Bryan Adams however I was again unable to post the original music video, so heres one some random created with lyrics. I've also posted another cover version below that. How I came across it? I was watching Family Guy the other night and I noticed this fantastic Artist called Stewie Griffin, he's fantastic .. check out his version of my favourite Bryan Adam's song :) BTW it's not the best version either, it was next to impossible to get hold of a high quality version.

"Penny Lane"
"Penny Lane" was performed by Beatles and written by Paul McCartney released in 1967. The song title is taken from the name of a street in the Band's hometown in Liverpool. I used to think this was about a woman named Penny Lane hehe. This was a big No. 1 hit in the USA back in 1967 , I think this could easily have been a hit today also. The very first time I heard "Penny Lane" I loved it.
As I mentioned before my brother and dad have always been big Beatles Fans, my father still thinks there has and never will be any better band than the Beatles. Their songs are all incredible and this one always stuck out for me. Knowing it's about a street in their hometown, I can see myself in my house on the street I used to live in. I'm sitting on by bed either on the phone to a friend or drawing while hearing this song blaring from my brothers room, while my mother was cooking dinner. Now I wonder what song will be playing from my kids bedroom while I'm cooking dinner in the future? Doubt it'll be the Beatles unless I have anything to do with it hehe

"The Final Countdown"
"The Final Countdown" is such a legendary song, a real classic! This was performed by the Swedish Rock Band Europe and written by Joey Tempest released in 1986.This song reached no. 1 in 25 countries. The song's lyrics were inspired by David Bowie's song "Space Oddity" .This song became extremely popular in sports arenas and stadiums everywhere.
This was also such a hit in South Africa back in the 80's , but not only was it just a big hit , it's a really good song. After not hearing it for a while a couple of years ago, I heard it again on the wireless AKA radio and I remembered again how great it was, so I managed to get hold of the ringtone for my phone. So I had this on my cell phone for a period of time, it worked well. I find this another good running track , very motivational and obviously the reason why it was used in sports arenas and stadiums. Don't think much about the lyrics , just enjoy a good song!.
"Can't fight this feeling"
"Can't fight this feeling" which I thought was "Can't fight this feeling anymore" was a 1984 Power Ballad which talks about a man falling in love with a woman who he has been friends with for a while. Two music video's were made for this song, the one I have posted makes references to the cycle of life. It's emotional just like the song.
The first time I heard this song was in the day time soapie "Loving" which first aired in 1983, of course being behind the times, South Africa got the American TV Shows and movies years later. This song was part of Steven Sowolsky and Trisha Alden's scene when they fall in love and end up together. I am 99% this song was used in an episode ( but I cannot locate the proof) as the song came out around that time. I will always associate it to Steven and Trisha's romance which was a "whirlwind". Not sure if people watched this soapie but I loved it until it turned into utter nonsense and then became " the City". Well the song is incredible ( like the series was once upon a long time ago) and speaks for itself..

"If I could turn back time"
"If I could turn back time" was performed by Cher and released in 1989 and there was quite a bit of controversy regarding her outfit at the time , in fact MTV banned the video and then only played the video after 9pm. A "censored video" with new scenes was then made which was considered less "sexually explicit". If MTV only knew then what they know now? If only they could turn back time ?Can you imagine all the singers in this day and age trying to promote themselves on MTV in the late 80's or 90's by acting the way they do now and running around half naked... it would be unheard of! That would never have been shown on MTV .Who says then if they would have even been called"Artists". It just would have had to be based on pure talent wouldn't it? Obviously MTV became more leniant over the years .Despite how she's dressed in this video , Cher still manages to maintain some class and it also doesn't hurt that the woman can sing !
I've always loved this tune , it's a catchy one. I love the words, there's always something I wish I could go back in time to change. Although we shouldn't have regrets , sometimes you just can't help it . It's just part of our nature ( or my nature) to want to go back and change something we said or did. I think if I could turn back time right now.. I would take myself 5 years back and I would eat more creamy pasta from my best italian restaurant and then eat some more Cadburys chocolate from South Africa. One has to remember I was also 8kgs my junior ( in other words 8 kgs lighter ) so give or take I could eat myself 2 kgs heavier at the least. The moral of the story( or the song) ..enjoy your life and live so you have no regrets and always remember to eat and be merry !!

"Don't dream it's over"
" Don't dream it's over" was another great hit by Crowded House recorded in 1986, released in 1987. It's just such a good song along with "Distant Sun". This Band is one of my best Bands, I just think they are outstanding and I would love to see them in concert one day.
The song is about a man telling his partner that they should persevere with their relationship despite the obstacles they are facing.
Six Pence none the Richer did a cover of this song and what can I say about it? It's obvious to me that the original is far more superior that the cover version. It was a sweet attempt by a new group, but it cannot be mastered the way it was mastered by Crowded House.

"I'm Ready"
"I'm Ready " was the title of my favourite song by R & B Artist Tevin Campbell which was included in the album "I'm Ready" released in 1993. This guy is so talented, he was just 16 when he recorded this album and also nominated for 3 Grammy awards in 1994. I just don't think they make music as good as this anymore. I love this kind of music , I love the heart and soul in his voice and in this song. Every song on this album is exceptional, however I just posted this one as it has special meaning to me.
I went on an overseas trip to the UK when I was 15 and thats when I bought this CD for the first time. I had originally heard and seen Tevin Campbell's music on the radio and on TV. My friend and I used to watch a Music TV Show every friday night ( a lot of it was in zulu) but they would play music videos ( in english) mainly R & B which I adored. The first time I heard this song I fell in love with it, there is just so much "Soul" in it .My friend always said I was a black soulful man in a past life because of my love for all this R & B. Maybe I was .. but I think I was a woman.
I love the way the song builds up to the line "And once again I'll be right here, waiting to share your love" There I was singing this song on karaoke alone at home, at least I thought I was alone , and my brother was standing by the door without me knowing and I was powering out that very line. I was so embarassed, but at least I thought I sounded half good.
The lyrics talk about a man waiting for a woman to tell him she's ready to give him the same love he's giving her. He recognises how "Uncool" the way she treats him is and how unsure her feelings are for him but he still chooses to wait for her.Love is a waiting game, but sometimes whether you're a man or a woman if you don't step up to the plate and " Be a man.. Do the right thing" someone else will be ready. That's life and that's the way the cookie crumbles..
Lyrics
Baby it was uncool to love me
Then leave me standing here now
Without a goodbye
And maybe I am the fool you call me
'Cause I'll be here standing,
Waiting to hear you say to me...
I'm ready, (you know I'm ready)
To love you (to love you)
Forever (forever)
Hey love now
Come and love me forever more
I'm ready, (you know I'm ready)
To love you (to love you)
Forever (forever)
Hey love now
Come and love me forever more
Sometimes, when I'm alone, I feel sad
I know you'll leave me once again
And take my pride
And maybe I am the fool you call me
'Cause I'll be here standing
Waiting to here you say to me...
I'm ready, (you know I'm ready)
To love you (to love you)
Forever (forever)
Hey love now
Come and love me forever more
I'm ready, (you know I'm ready)
To love you (to love you)
Forever (forever)
Hey love now
Come and love me forever more
And once again I'll be right here Waiting to share your love
But I hope this time for once
We'll forever mend it... oh
I'm ready, (you know I'm ready)
To love you (to love you)
Forever (forever)
Hey love now
Come and love me forever more
I'm ready, (you know I'm ready)

"Everytime I close my eyes"
"Everytime I close my eyes " was written and performed by singer/songwriter "Babyface" recorded in 1996 and released in 1997. It features Mariah Carey on backing vocals and Kenny G on the sax solo. This is another slow but extremely beautiful song with exceptional lyrics and again could easily be used as a wedding song.
This song reminds me of a very old friend of mine who I shared some really fun times with. I don't dedicate the lyrics to her ( obviously - that would be a tad wierd) but when I hear it..well it makes me think of the good memories we had together because this song was popular back in 1997. Unfortunately she and I are no longer friends anymore ( although she is on my facebook- she added me and I accepted ) we don't speak to eachother. Still I often wonder if the old funny crazy friend that I knew back in the day and I used to laugh with for hours still exists.
On the other hand just taking the lyrics into account I've posted them below, they are like I said..beautiful. Imagine a man singing this to his ladeh AKA Lady. Just so sweet, Babyface is a remarkable singer and even better songwriter!!
Lyrics
Girl, it's been a long, long time comin'
But I, I know that it's been worth the wait
It feels like springtime in winter
It feels like Christmas in June
It feels like heaven has opened up
its gates for me and you
*-
And every time I close my eyes
I thank the Lord that I've got you
And you've got me too
And every time I think of it
I pinch myself 'cause I don't believe it's true
That someone like you loves me too, yeah
Girl, I think that you're truly somethin'
Yes, you are, and you're every bit of a dream come true
With you baby, it never rains and it's no wonder
The sun always shines when I'm near you
It's just a blessing that I have found somebody like you
(repeat *)
To think of all the nights I've cried myself to sleep
You really oughta know how much you mean to me
It's only right that you be in my life
Right here with me, oh baby, baby

Girl, it's been a long, long time comin'
But I, I know that it's been worth the wait
It feels like springtime in winter
It feels like Christmas in June
It feels like heaven has opened up
its gates for me and you
*-
And every time I close my eyes
I thank the Lord that I've got you
And you've got me too
And every time I think of it
I pinch myself 'cause I don't believe it's true
That someone like you loves me too, yeah
Girl, I think that you're truly somethin'
Yes, you are, and you're every bit of a dream come true
With you baby, it never rains and it's no wonder
The sun always shines when I'm near you
It's just a blessing that I have found somebody like you
(repeat *)
To think of all the nights I've cried myself to sleep
You really oughta know how much you mean to me
It's only right that you be in my life
Right here with me, oh baby, baby
"End of the Road"
"End of the Road" was performed by Boyz II Men in 1992 for the Motown Label and ended up their most successful single. It won a 1992 Grammy and was written and produced by "Babyface". This song was recorded for the Soundtrack of the movie "Boomerang" starring Eddie Murphy and talked about a break up where the man doesn't want the woman to go.
This is such a good song, Boyz II Men were just pure talent and their harmonies were always incredible.Part of the reason I love this song are all the memories I take from it. My first year starting high school , Standard 6, in other words the 8th Grade. Twas the year 1993 and this song was a huge hit at the time. I had a huge crush on one of the prefects who was in Standard 10, in other words the 12th Grade ( all the rest of the girls crushed on him too) and he didn't even know I existed.I would stand around the prefects room( all the prefects had a special room) and I would wait for him to come out ( along with the rest of the girls) so I could catch a glimpse of this Hunk( a term used back in the 90's I believe, so corny hehe). I was just this innocent, tubby 13 year old starting in a new school ,with a big crush, making (or trying to make ) new friends. Eventually I found my little group ,unfortunately for me at the time I was never part of the "In crowd". This song will always reflect that time in my life but that is not a bad thing.
Now that I am older and wiser I know that I may not have made it into the "popular crowd" and I may not have gotten my year long crush to notice me, but the beginning of High School for me was exactly that , it was just the beginning. The beginning of a much greater gift , some of the very special friendships I made that year and we sustained all these years later.

"Coming around again"
"Coming around again" was performed by singer/songwriter Carly Simon in 1987.I just found the cover performed by Copeland, which I really do not like. How they can expect to redo a classic like this and think it could even be comparable to the original is beyond me. It's so frustrating when they butcher an original song as good as this. Carly Simon is tops and so is her song ,to be sung only be her.I've posted both versions anyway.
I love the original music video and I love the lyrics. It just makes me realise how time goes by so quickly, in a blink of an eye you're all grown up trying to make a life of your own, moved out of your parent's house and living in a strange land (overseas) with a strange man( husband to be ).Who would have thought your life would turn out that way? Looking back I would never have believed where my future would have taken me because of the experiences I had already had. Having lived the good life ( a very comfortable life) with parents who mollycoddled me , fed me well , did everything for me , not ever having to worry about pushing myself out on my own into the dark scary world out there made things a lot easier for me , who could ask for more?
Well it was hard moving and changing but it was good for me , it has never been easy living so far away from my family, but it taught me to really appreciate them because I didn't realise what I really had until I left it. Everyday I still think about my family back in South Africa and the life I had and when I hear this song it gets me because I feel such nostalgia for the way things were, I lived a good life there ( and I am blessed) .Unfortunately we can't turn back the clock and magically go back , but we can decide to make the most of every moment from here on out we have right now and not take anything for granted because these moments will also be gone soon.
The lyrics are below , I really always loved the line " and I believe in love , but what else can I do , I 'm so in love with you " :)
Lyrics
Baby sneezes
Mummy pleases
Daddy breezes in
So good on paper
So romantic
But so bewildering
(chorus)
I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
there's more room in a broken heart
You pay the grocer
Fix the toasted
Kiss the host Good-bye
Then you break a window
burn the Souffle
Scream the lullaby
I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
there's more room in a broken heart
And I believe in love
But what else can I do
I'm so in love with you
I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again

"My Lady Soul"
This is one of my best songs, the tune is incredible and you can feel the soul, I just fell in love with this song when I heard it. "The Temptations" achieved fame as one of the most successful acts to record for Motown Records ,they've been said to have been as influential to Soul as the "Beatles" are to pop and rock. In 2010 they started to record again with only one living original member Otis Williams.
A few remixes were done to this song, but as I say I always prefer the original. There may be some rare case that the remix is better than the original , but I reckon the song couldn't have been that great to begin with if that's the case. The remix is called tribal blast but I cannot seem to locate it. The first time I heard the remix I was on my 5th or 6th date with my current boyfriend of over 5 years. It was at this club/bar in Johannesburg , I was really shy back then and he loved to dance. I hated that he loved to dance ( because I was so shy).I remember the polar neck he wore ( I hate polar necks) and I remember what I wore ( he hates what I wore more) He eventually told me a couple months later that I looked like a gypsy, when I thought I looked quite good (back then that is). It's okay cause I told him I hate Polar Necks and seems he's quit them because of me ( either that or we live in a climate that's too hot for that now) He brought me out of my shell starting off that night , I even danced a little .We ended up staying and speaking until 4 am about everything under the sun until he dropped me at home. Little did I know this was just the beginning and how long things would take and yes it took some time..and it still is taking some time, but you know what ?...that's okay because as confusing and daunting as things may seem at times, it still is crystal clear to my instinct which knows that when it's right it's right and time is meaningless ( besides my eggs my eggs haha ) lyrics speak for themselves ..

Lyrics :
Ohh... Ohh... Ohh... Ohh... My Lady Soul
Lying here beside you
Close as we can be
I know what this means too
I know what you need... ya
I'm ready to surrender, my love
Lay it all in your hands
Give you my forever
Everything I am
*'Cuz you are My My My My Lady Soul
You are my heart
When I grow old
Ohh you are My My My My Lady Soul
You are my life
You make me whole*
Ohh... Ohh... My Lady Soul
I feel it in your heartbeats
Hear it in your cry's
This is where our hearts meet
I see it in your eyes
I've been waiting for this moment
My love, It's a dream come alive
Heaven must have sent me
An angel of the night
*'Cuz you are My My My My Lady Soul
You are my heart
When I grow old
'Cuz you are My My My My Lady Soul
(You are My Lady Soul)
You are my life
You make me whole*
Ohh...
I always knew we'd end up together
Right from the very start
And I believe we'll make it forever
It's writtin right here in my heart
Ohh ya... Ohh... Ahh... Ohh...
