"Everybody wants to rule the world" was performed by the British New Wave Band, Tears for Fears in 1985. Another great eighties hit used as the soundtrack for a number of movies such as "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion"1997, "Click" 2006,"Felix the Cat" 1991, Independence Day Trailer 1996.
I always loved the first line of this song "Welcome to your life , theres no turning back", to me I interpreted it to mean we all are given our lives to live and we choose how we want to live them out and no matter how much you want to trade your life with someone elses , there is no turning back or chance for exchange. I think to sum it up it talks about the fact that the decisions/choices we make all have repercussions (whether it be in this world or the one to come) and that we need to take responsibility for the choices we do make. We are given a limited amount of time on earth and we should always be aware of the consequences of our actions and make this time count even though ultimately our choices do lead us to a predetermined destiny. It's about how much a human being can be consumed with material desires like power and money and while in pursuit of our selfish pleasures we completely disregard Mother Nature.
I adore this song, here are the lyrics and video below
Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on Mother Nature
Everybody wants to rule the world.
It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world.
There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you.
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world.
I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world.
