"(I've had)The time of my life was recorded by Bill Medley and Jenifer Warnes for the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing. Such nostalgia, Dirty Dancing was released in South Africa in 1988 / 1989. I was smitten by that Patrick Swayze when I first discovered him in North and South as "Orrie Main" ...and when Dirty Dancing came out(this came out after North and South I believe) I had to see it , to see who I believed my future husband was.

I nagged my parents to take me to see it in the byscope and so we went. I was so upset when to my surprise it was fully booked out - no seats available??.This could not be happening ( who thought about pre-booking back in the dark ages - were there such facilities?) I felt like my heart was broken, I was devastated, so my parents tried to make me feel better and offered to grab me a video with him in it, it was VHS or Beta but I can't quite remember (remember those?) Of course I was bribed with padkos ( food for the journey ) and this in addition made me feel much better very quickly.The next night we went to see it finally ..and all great expectations were met and even exceeded.I have seen this movie hundreds of times I just lost count.They just don't make them like they used to.

So back to this song, it is an all time favourite and the movie makes it !! But there are some other great tracks on the original Dirty Dancing Album .The record was given to me as I had a record player back in the eighties and I had the cassette too, I felt so lucky and I knew that soundtrack backwards.It's still such good music!! Patrick Swayze was an incredibly talented man and blessed with solid good looks , so upsetting to hear about his death but his memoir will live on forever in movies as good as this.

The Black Eyed Peas version is awful, I think they butchered this song.I've posted the new version .The only thing good about their version is the actual music video.Try and compare? ...there is.. in my opinion no comparison.Why would these bands want to kill songs like this.It does this song no justice.The original is far more superior!!!
